Third Hike’s the Charm: Sprague Pond

Hike #3 of the day turned out to be the redemption I needed after our less-than-successful attempt at Rock Lake. Feeling a little intimidated after turning around earlier, I was happy to arrive at this beautiful and peaceful destination.

Hike Report

The hike to Sprague Pond is incredibly short—less than half a mile from the trailhead—and follows a wide, easy path that would be more than suitable for carrying a canoe or kayak to the water. As soon as I saw the pond, I knew I’d want to come back and explore it further by paddle.

We parked in the designated lot, passed through the yellow gate marking the start of the trail, and after just 0.3 miles were greeted by the calm waters of Sprague Pond. Darby immediately made herself at home, splashing in the water, chasing sticks, and hopping from rock to rock along the shoreline. Watching her enjoy herself was easily the highlight of the visit.

The pond itself was beautiful and incredibly serene. One thing that surprised me was discovering campsites tucked back in the area. It felt wonderfully secluded, and despite its easy access, the entire area was quiet and peaceful.

This is definitely a place I’d love to revisit—whether with a kayak, canoe, or maybe even a paddleboard. Sometimes the shortest hikes lead to the most relaxing destinations.

Sprague Pond is less of a hike and more of a destination, but it’s a beautiful one. The easy walk, peaceful setting, and watching Darby play in the water made this a memorable stop. I’ll definitely be returning with a canoe or kayak to see more of what this pond has to offer.

Happy Hiking!
