The One with The Best Half-Mile Hike

This is one of my new favorite places—so peaceful, so beautiful, and so natural.

Today, we planned to complete the four “easy” hikes I needed for the 4-3-2-1 Way Challenge. The day before, we had hiked Buttermilk Falls, one of the easiest hikes on the list. Since I had someone to hike with, I was determined to fit in as many trails as possible while I had the chance.

First up was Death Brook Falls, also known as Secret Falls. And what a gem of a secret it turned out to be.

At just over a half-mile round trip, this hike delivers an incredible reward for very little effort. Even better, there were barely any other people around. Finding a waterfall this beautiful without the crowds felt like discovering a hidden treasure.

This quickly became one of my favorite places. The trail is short, flat, and easy, leading directly to a stunning waterfall tucked away in the woods. The peaceful setting makes it the perfect place to slow down and enjoy nature.

We noticed several side paths branching off from the main trail, which appeared to head toward the top of the falls. We didn’t explore them during this visit, but I’d love to come back someday and see where they lead.

This would also be a wonderful spot to spend an afternoon with a good book, a sketchpad, or some paints. It’s the kind of place that invites you to stay awhile and simply enjoy the scenery.

It’s hard to beat a hike this easy that leads to scenery this beautiful. The trail is wide, mostly flat, and suitable for almost anyone. If you’re looking for a quick stop with a big payoff, Secret Falls is definitely worth a visit.
