If you’re looking for a “non-hike hike,” this is the perfect destination. The entire trip clocked in at just 0.2 miles round-trip—and that included wandering around to view the falls from several different angles.

As part of the Indian Lake 4-3-2-1 Challenge, we made a stop at Buttermilk Falls for my first challenge check-off. What a way to begin!
The falls were absolutely roaring during our visit. We spent about half an hour simply sitting nearby, listening to the rushing water and taking in the peaceful surroundings. It was one of those places where time seems to slow down. Outside of the busy summer season, I could easily see myself bringing a book and spending an afternoon relaxing here.
I’ve visited Buttermilk Falls before, and I remember it being much busier. This time, however, we practically had the entire area to ourselves. It was nice to be able to enjoy the falls without crowds and really appreciate the beauty of the spot.
While it may not be a traditional hike, Buttermilk Falls proves that sometimes the most rewarding destinations require very little effort to reach.

Rating
8/10
The falls were beautiful, the weather was perfect, and the peaceful atmosphere made for a wonderful stop. That said, I could see this rating dropping a bit during peak season when crowds are more common. Its accessibility and stunning waterfall make it an understandably popular destination.

Happy Hiking Friends!
